Busy weekend: halloween, and awards ceremonies

This weekend I was on my own here at the farm, or rather the kids and I were on our own. Aba was off to an awards ceremony in the finger lakes with his yacht racing team ( well, it isn’t his team, but rather the team he is on that one, you know what I mean). They had taken 1st place in the spring season ( the season he races) and 2nd overall. It is a really big deal apparently. His skipper recieved a silver platter with a picture of his boat etched on it, how cool is that?

So anyhoo, I was left manning the farm, halloween, and football/cheerleading awards events. It started out okay. Saturday morning our contractor showed up and continued working on the cellar, Aba’s friend B came over and they set the bolts in the cellar the first step to moving the washer and dryer down, and fixed the manger that the cows and sheep had broken ( the second one they broke this year, eventaully we will build something cattle proof the first time, really we will), then got ready to go. Aba left around 2, I put Littles and Rockstar down for a nap, and worked on a drywall project I needed to do. remember the room I started redoing oh a year ago? Yeah it is part of that. We have finally gotten back to a season where I can continue on it. I got the first pice of drywall cut and up and was about ready to get everyone ready for halloween festivites when the rain started. I decided to continue getting them ready since we were going to an indoor party first anyhow.

I got everyone up and dressed in thermals, then their costumes, did special halloween makeup, the boys had white faces, black around their eyes, red lips, and bloody teeth. Princess had purple glitter eyes, heavy black eyebrows and circles around her eyes along with purple lips. Littles had sparkles all over with pink sparkly lips. I skyped the grandmas so they could see the little ones in costume, I tryed skyping Bampa and Nana too, but they didn’t answer. I took pictures and loaded everyone up. We headed to our haoween party a half hour away, when about 5 minutes down the road, Princess got car sick. I asked if she wanted to go home, and she said no, to keep heading to the party. So on we went. But wouldn’t your know I wrote down the wrong address, after driving past the house, finding a lost cow standing int he middle of the road, reporting it to the neighbor, who then told me where to find the farmer and to go tell him directly, finding and telling the farmer, and heading back we finally found the house. The kids bounded out of the car, and ran to play with Jewish friends.

A few minutes later princess was back and not feeling well, she had a tummyache, she asked to go home. No she didn’t want to lay down, no she didn’t want to eat something or drink anything, no she didn’t want to go trick-or-treating. I went to tell the boys. Navi was very upset, and said so and pouted. Rockstar didn’t seem to quite understand, that is until we were in teh car and driving away without having gone trick-or-treating. Then he began crying he wanted to go trick-or-treating. Ugh. If Aba was here we would divide and conquer, but that wasn’t an option. So I kept heading home on the main road 9 avoiding my much preferred back roads that twist and turn. I decided we would stop near their school, wehre I knew where several people lived and felt more comfortable with the town layout and our surroundings (like which streets I wanted to avoid for various reasons, and which streets are packed close together with lots of houses.

As we pulled into town I explained how this was going to work. Navi would take Rockstar and Littles house to house up one side of the block and down the other while I stood next to the car watching them and watching Princess. It was the best I could come up with to make everyone happy. It seemed to work out okay. We did this for a total of 6 nlocks with the exception of the one busy street that I walked with them on towards the end.

I took pictures of both Princess sleeping in the car in her costume and the others trick-or-treating. I took pictures of the 2 pumpkins Navi carried (he was collecting candy for princess as well), I took pictures of their loot (about 30 pieces each, many houses were already out by the time we got to town); I took pictures of Princesses untouched bucket, and their chocolaty faces.

Al seamed to have gone well, considering. Sunday morning, I went to look at the pictures only to discover I had forgotten to put the memory card in. Oh, so that is what that little red symbol meant. Oops. Shoot, Aba missed the whole thing, and that just wouldn’t do especially since he had spent some time working on Princesses costume. What to do, what to do. I know, make everyone get their costumes on again. With a half hour till it was time to leavce for the football/cheerleading awards I made everyone put their costumes back on minus the thermals and make-up and took some more pictures. Good, crises diverted. We then headed out to the ceremonies, where they got to watch “the Game Pan” and each received a trophy. Here I did get pictures, with the memory card in this time. However the theatre was so dark, they didn’t come out the best, but we took some outside as well. They are both super happy with their trophies and couldn’t wait to show Aba. We went on a few quick errands to gt a new fuse for our spring pump, ( it went out Friday with a power outage, and we have only had spring pressure since then), and Chinese to celebrate the official end of the football/cheerleading season until next year.

Oh, and the fuse we got? It didn’t fix the problem, so I guess Aba will get to handle it today.
