apple picking

Once a year we try to take the kids picking.  We generally go strawberry picking, cherry picking, blueberry picking, and apple picking off the farm.  We pick lots of stuff on the farm too, but somehow that doesn’t seem to count the same, and we actually go blueberry picking 4 or 5 times, apples 2 or 3 , etc.  but make sure that the kids come along at least once where we make a day out of it, and actually keep some of what is picked instead of selling it all at market.

Yesterday we finally made it apple picking.  I like to wait till the Ida Reds are in to go with the kids, since those are what we store over the winter down cellar for fresh eating and pies.  Usually that is around October 13th, but not this year!  Due to the weather they weren’t ready yet, and then last week once they were ready, the weather turned bitter cold for a few days.  and Who would have thunk they won’t let you pick apples when it is snowing???  So anyways we finally got them.. We ended up with Ida Reds, Empires, and Cortlands.  All Aba approved apples( by taste).  Note for next time when going apple picking specifically ask aba if he has his pocket knife for apple sampling.

We picked the kids up from school after lunch, and they all bounded out of the car full of energy and excitement.

Eager to use the apple picking poles regardless how high (or low) the apples were.  Littles wanted to pick from the wagon at first.

As the afternoon went by and tummies got full of apple, they began to slow down.  And by the time we got back to the car everyone was ready for a good sleep including Aba and I.  I think we both fell asleep while watching Monday night football with our good friends.  I think they left when the game was over, but I am not really sure…
