Pig wrangling
For hanukkah I took Aba pig wrangling. As a surpise.
On Monday I told Aba we were going somewhere Tuesday morning. And he began asking questions. I swear he was worse than a 2 year old with the whys? Where are we going? (its a surprise) Is it inside or out?(both) Are we going sledding? (no)What do I need to wear? (we went over this many times at least 20) Is it close by? (yes) Are we going skiing? (I am just laughing now at all the questions) Is it a hunting trip? Do I need keens or muck boots? What kind of gloves should I wear? What are we going to do? and on and on and on. As we started driving away from the farm he asked if he could drive? (no) he said can you tell me where we are going now? (no) Is it for the kids too? No. So we are on our way, I considered blind folding him, but figured that wasn’t necessary. I pretended we were going to the hospital at first just for fun, then headed to the final destination. As we turned into the driveway he finally figured out where we where going, what are we doing here? (a small organic dairy farm) You’ll see I said.
and we headed towards the milk house.
Then took a detour to a loafing shed just next to it
where inside Aba spied The pigs!!!
- Tamworth piglets
Tamworth pigs and piglets (and one Yorkshire just for good measure) Aba’s grin was so big it covered his whole face (he has a thing for pigs. He was awed by how large they were (the mothers are 1 1/2 years), captivated by the piglets and afraid to pet them.
Once he got over that fear he was able to get in the pen with them and try and help with the piglets (their was 2 litters one 9 weeks, and one 12 weeks). He got to chase them around try and catch them, feed them, play with them etc.

I would have gotten more pictures, but I was to busy laughing as was the other farm wife (the one who actually lives on that farm) we laughed as he tried to catch them and sometimes succeeded and sometimes didn’t as they squealed when caught,

when he bear hugged them before figuring out how to use the wheelbarrow hold.
everyone left happy if not cold ( it was 23 degrees, which was considerably warmer than the 5 degrees predicted) They sure are cute Aren’t they??This will be a hanukkah to remember, Happy Hanukkah Aba!!! We have been laughing about it all day.

OK–call me confused…Jewish yes? PIGS?? Hanukkah? Keeping Shabbat? PIIIGS?!?!
His gift was to PLAY with pigs?? and then go home with no pig of his own?
I don’t get it at all–but you obviously got it just right–that is ONE happy guy!!
Great pics. We have some pig wrangling stories of our own. My husband and a friend were catching full grown pigs for the butcher and they both fell head first in the mud during the chase. It was hilarious. We used to buy milk from the Evan’s, and their maple yogurt is delicious!
Happy Chanukah!
Look at that childlike happiness!
That is some good old fashioned man-fun! What a great gift idea!
[...] you know what it is? maybe think back to Hannukah. Do you know [...]
