this week on the farm

Our first tractor attachment arrived, along with spring flowers and warmer weather!

Remember our field?  The one  we were cleaning up and made a mess of?  Aba and the kids got busy marking all the stumps that needed to be removed with bright orange flags Photobucket

(that the ran out of way before the job was done,) and then the big dog came in.  The mini excavator we rented turned out to be not so mini after all – a cat 304 (or maybe people in the country just have a different idea of what a mini is than those in suburbia). Photobucket

The roots were all pulled up in a hurry, as well as several brush plants we hadn’t gotten to, areas of the river were repaired, and stumps dragged out.Photobucket

A trench was dug on the side of the field to help catch runoff and hopefully help drain some of the underground springs that outlet on the field, and some of the brush pulled from the future pasture as well.  Here is a slide show of how fast the trench filled up! These pictures were taken in rapid succession.

We also finally started work on our farm sign and it is taking much longer than I had anticipated (I thought it would be a one afternoon project – it is not), but we should be done with it soon, at least I hope we will anyways.Photobucket

The kids are also finally making the transformation to “real” country kids. Laying under the trees looking at the clouds with the dog; laughing while rolling down hills; playing by the brook; and running barefoot where ever they go. And of course, I didn’t take a single picture of any of it, figures huh?

Master Hunter has been unfortunatly resigned to a chain while we work outside, and to staying inside the rest of the time, and he is not happy about it one bit, but until we find the chargers to his hunting collars ( we are still not completely unpacked, and can’t found countless things…) it will have to do, then we can train him properly to country life and boundaries.  And I am pretty tired of hunting him down on neighboring farms…

Thank you also for all the kind comments regarding our shul. Aba is at a meeting right now, with the rest of the congregation to find out what is next, what we need, and how we will proceed, the only thing I know is that we are rebuilding and the whole community (not just the Jewish community) is supporting and  in outrage. The local paper was pretty much all about it on Friday, and last night was an interfaith candlelight vigil with a large outcome.
