Winter fairyland

We have many different microhabitats on our land.  One of them Aba discovered just a few days ago on one of his daily walks ( these are no leisurely walks in the park, mind you.  In order to get to this particular spot, i had to walk through the future pasture, past 4 deer stand, climb through a bunch of tree debris from when parts of the land was logged, slide down a snowy hill on my butt, climb cross a small ravine, and climb up an icy hill a bit.  So needless to say, no our children have not seen this wonderful spot ( oh and getting back involved crossing a frozen log over the not so thick ice of one of our rivers below, walking through an icy marsh, and carrying master hunter for part, he refused to walk in the icy marsh, probably because he didn’t have knee high muck boots on.

But any ways it is simply beautiful, Aba said he could picture Miss B playing with her dolls here, having tea with fairies, and putting flowers in her hair.

The old growth conifers are icy with freshly fallen snow flakes, the stacked slate hill is covered in tiny glistening frozen waterfalls, and there are ferns and mosses galore everywhere you looked.  Potato chip fungie ( Aba’s words, not mine) held on to a few old logs, the sun dappled through the leaves, and the snow glistened.  We will definitely have to come and visit this place again, and possibly make an easier route so I can bring the girls here to play in the shade during the heat of summer.

We built a really fun “fairy garden” using scavenged bits we found about the place. An old oil can makes a lovely fairy home…
